What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a name given to a broad collection of female disorders and diseases. Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of the most common endocrine disorders affecting women across their lifespan. The consequences of PCOS are far reaching and affect reproductive, metabolic, and cardiovascular health. These disorders are a related cluster, not simply a happenchance of misfortune. It has been estimated that 10% of women of child-bearing age could be suffering from PCOS. The percentage could be as high as 50% among those women who are chubby, fat or obese. These disorders and diseases are actually symptoms of PCOS.
Your doctor may not even acknowledge polycystic ovarian syndrome. Physicians typically diagnose the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome as individual disease and treat each one separately. Professional medical references typically list the symptoms of PCOS when describing the cause. The cause and treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome is scientifically known as will be be presented here. However, professional medical references hesitate to identify the syndrome, fail to identify the cause and have no suggestions for treating PCOS. Physicians typically treat the symptoms of PCOS by trying to mitigate the symptoms. These attempts consistently fail because the foundational cause and treatment presented here are ignored.

What are the Disorders and Diseases Related to PCOS?
Ovarian cysts are one of the first signs that a young women has symptoms of PCOS. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled ovarian follicles from which the egg fails to release during the monthly cycle. The cysts usually disappears after a few months but can grow and rupture to become a serious health problem. The cysts are caused by the abnormal growth of ovarian tissue. The cysts can cause pain and discomfort. Common medical treatment is surgery to remove the ovary. This treatment is unfortunate because the root cause for the cyst remain, and the second ovary commonly develops cysts as well. The second surgery leaves the woman permanently sterile.
Ovarian cancer is the uncontrolled abnormal growth of ovarian cells. The cancer cells in the surface layer of the ovary are called epithelial carcinoma. Cancer growing from the egg-producing cells is called germ cell cancer. Less common cancer growing within the other areas of the ovary are called stromal cancer. Since ovarian cancer may not produce symptoms, it can go undiagnosed until it spreads to other organs. Common medical treatment is surgery for the removal of the ovaries and tumors followed by radiation and/or chemotherapy. Professional medical societies have not identified the cause for ovarian cancer, but it is simply one of the diseases related to polycystic ovarian syndrome. The vegetarian diet will not prevent ovarian cancer. Actually, it is the cause.
Endometriosis is a condition in which abnormal tissue grows in and around the ovaries, uterus and other areas in the pelvis and abdomen. These tissues can form an interconnecting web with attachments to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, uterus, intestines, appendix, rectum and lining of the abdomen. The woman has pain when the structures prevent normal flexibility of the various organs. Attachments to the small intestines and colon prevent normal movement and flexibility resulting in pain and discomfort. The endometriosis tissue is stretched or torn causing pain. Medical examinations such as a colonoscopy prove to be negative because the endometriosis tissues are on the outer surfaces of the intestines, not internal. For this reason, endometriosis is often misdiagnosed or continues without any diagnosis. The common medical treatment is surgery to remove some of the endometriosis tissue. These surgeries are only a temporary solution because the remaining tissue and new tissue continue to grow. These surgeries fail to remove the root cause of the growth.
Hormone Imbalances are one of the major symptoms of women with PCOS. The high insulin levels drive the ovaries to covert progesterone to testosterone. The insulin also reduces the serum hormone binding globulin (SHBG). These effects result in a hyperandrogenic state in the ovary resulting in follicle atresia (closing of the tubular opening preventing release of the egg) and ovulatory dysfunction. Many physicians attempt to correct the hormone imbalances by prescribing hormone therapy. This approach is counter productive and ineffective because the therapy is fighting the root cause of the hormone imbalance, not removing it.
Irregular Menstruation and Amenorrhea (cessation of menstrual periods) are other major symptom of women with PCOS. The hormone imbalances stated above disrupt the menstrual periods. In mild PCOS cases or in younger women the menstrual period may be skipped infrequently, but in severe PCOS complete cessation of menstruation can occur. Excessive exercises like jogging make the condition worse, not better as commonly claimed.
Studies have shown that injecting female hamsters with insulin will stop their reproductive cycle. In the same manner, a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet as eaten by vegetarians or as recommended by the USDA Food Pyramid Guide will increase insulin and disrupt fertility in women. The hormones in these women often become so disrupted that amenorrhea occurs (the cessation of menstruation). They cannot become pregnant. In contrast, a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet of adequate calories, as recommended here, corrects hormonal imbalances and promotes fertility.
Infertility is the obvious result of constant high insulin level (hyperinsulinemia) in women with PCOS. The combination of hormonal disruption and closing of the egg follicle of the ovary causes infertility. Eggs are prevented from being released from the ovary thereby preventing any hope of pregnancy. Either the hormone imbalances are not supportive of fertilized eggs becoming implanted in the uterus, or an implanted egg is flushed away.
Miscarriage is threatened in all months of the pregnancy in women with PCOS. The hormone imbalance simply does not support the necessary body functions required in a pregnant woman. The fetus is flushed from the uterus and dies. Women with PCOS who are attempting to become pregnant are most likely unaware that they are having several miscarriages yearly. Physicians specializing in infertility and prenatal care may attempt to keep the fetus from spontaneously aborting by the administration of hormone therapy. This approach can be successful in a percentage of the cases.
Excess Body and Facial Hair appear as other common symptoms in women with PCOS. The growth of hair is caused by the excessive level of testosterone leading to male characteristics.
Loss of Scalp Hair is also related to the high level of testosterone resulting in male pattern baldness.
Weight Gain and Obesity are the norm in women with PCOS, but obesity is not a requirement in the diagnosis of PCOS. Many slender women have PCOS. These slender women tend to be those who exercise excessively and control caloric intake.
Insulin Resistance is a symptom in all cases of PCOS and directly related to the root cause described below. Insulin resistance occurs in cells of the muscles as a result of cellular insulin fatigue. The cells simply become resistant to the onslaught of high levels of insulin, forcing the cells to burn glucose for the production of heat or work. The body becomes resistant to the effects of insulin, so higher and higher levels are produced to get the same effect. The cells say, "enough is enough." Insulin can be compared to a turbocharger on an internal combustion engine. The turbo pushes air and fuel into the engine to increase the power output. Insulin resistance has been shown to be associated with hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), high triglycerides (hypertriglyceridaemia), glucose intolerance, excessive cholesterol and lipoprotein in the blood such as VLDL and LDL (dyslipidaemia), high blood uric acid and gout (hyperuricaemia), high blood pressure (hypertension) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
As the cells become insulin resistant the blood insulin level keeps increasing as required to remove the excess glucose from the blood. The brain is very sensitive to the glucose level and attempts to maintain a constant normal range. The higher insulin level called hyperinsulinemia forces the excess glucose to be stored as body fat. This is the reason women with PCOS suffer from weight gain and obesity in most cases. However, fat cells can become insulin resistant as well and insulin levels continue to rise. Hyperinsulinemia also forces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids into the lining of the arteries causing coronary artery disease (CAD), peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and carotid artery disease of the neck leading to a stroke.
Diabetes is often misdiagnosed in women with PCOS when the capacity of the woman's pancreas to produce insulin remains strong. The upper level of blood glucose can be kept from reaching symptomatic levels because of the strong supply of insulin. Women with PCOS mistakenly nibble and snack on carbohydrate foods whenever a lower glucose level causes increased hunger. This method prevents hypoglycemic symptoms. These women often eat and snack in such a manner that their blood sugar remains in a near normal range. Doctors frequently tell patients with PCOS to eat this way, but nibbling on high-carbohydrate foods all day long is the road to disaster. Many doctors also fail to check the blood insulin and glucose levels during a 5-hour glucose tolerance test. In reality, all women with PCOS are diabetic. Some are diagnosed as diabetic, but many are not. Nibbling and snacking on high-carbohydrate foods in order to control blood sugar is the worst thing a woman with PCOS could do. This method makes insulin resistance worse and PCOS symptoms more severe.

Heart Disease is a common late-stage event in women with PCOS and is the highest cause of death among these women.
Polycystic ovary syndrome : Prototype of a cardiometabolic syndrome.
Acne is common for women with PCOS because of the imbalance of hormones.
Allergies are more common in women with PCOS.
Sex Drive is often increased in women with PCOS because of the increase in the male hormone, testosterone. This makes them desire sex more frequently in order to get pregnant, but the hormone imbalances prevent conception.
Uterine Fibroids are a common symptom of PCOS. Typical treatment is removal of the uterus (hysterectomy).

Doctors Ignore Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Betty began having menstrual problems when she was 14. At age 16 she began gaining excess body fat and was soon 20 pounds overweight. This is the true story of her unsuccessful battle with PCOS. She ate the typical high-carbohydrate diet of cereal with milk and orange juice for breakfast; crackers and cookies for a snack; fruit and bagels for lunch; more crackers and cookies for a snack; pasta with French bread for dinner; and more fruit and bread for an evening snack. She drank either fruit juice or soft drinks for much of her liquid intake. By age 35 Betty had become obese with facial hair, irregular menstrual periods and abdominal attacks with severe pain. Her doctor gave her all the standard tests and examinations but did not recommend anything that made any difference whatsoever.
Betty was given an article about PCOS by a relative. She skimmed it but didn't bother to give it much attention or serious study. On her next visit to the doctor she asked him,
"Do I have PCOS?"
He said, "Yes, you do."
She said, "Why didn't you tell me?"
He said, "Because there is nothing we can do about it."
The doctor was right. She did have PCOS, and there was nothing he could do about it. His medical training and his professional medical society basically ignore PCOS. Pharmaceutical companies ignore PCOS because they cannot develop a drug to combat the numerous symptoms. Drugs that increase the body's sensitivity to insulin, such as metformin (used to treat diabetes), are sometimes used with limited success because the root cause is ignored. Betty's doctor offered no prescription drugs and gave no advice. He didn't even bother to discuss diet with her because he would never have advised her to eat a high-fat, high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet. He doctor was taught that "eating red meat and saturated fat causes heart disease, you know."
Betty was an undiagnosed diabetic. Her doctor didn't even run any tests for diabetes. She did not complain of hypoglycemia because she nibbled and snacked all day long on high-carbohydrate foods in order to satisfy her food craving caused by blood sugar swings. She didn't have hyperglycemia either because her pancreas produced large quantities of insulin in order to control the onslaught of blood glucose. According to her doctor's observations she was not diabetic, but in reality Betty had been a diabetic for years. She could never have passed a 5-hour glucose tolerance test. He never bothered to test her blood insulin level either.
Betty eventually insisted that her doctor do exploratory surgery to determine what was causing her severe abdominal pains. She was fearful of cancer. Since insurance companies do not pay for exploratory surgery, he justified his exploratory surgery by removing her gallbladder regardless of the fact that it may not have been diseased. He told her the gallbladder was coming out whether it was the problem or not. He could not submit charges for gallbladder surgery to the insurance company without removing it. Betty's gallbladder was removed, and her doctor found the source for her severe abdominal pain. Betty had a massive structure of endometrioses tissues spanning throughout her abdominal cavity like heavy spider webs. She had endometriosis growths everywhere.
Betty had another surgery to remove her endometriosis growths, ovaries and uterus. This surgery did relieve much of her abdominal pains, but she was still diabetic. After the surgery her sex hormones plunged. She started having "hot flashes" and began hormone replacement therapy which caused her to suffered numerous undesirable side effects. Betty will likely die from heart disease because 75% of diabetics die from heart disease. She still doesn't eat red meat or saturated fat, and her doctor thinks that is great. She continues to eat lots of whole grains and fruit.

What Causes Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
The constant onslaught of carbohydrates in the diet causes polycystic ovarian syndrome, period. It is as simple as that. Medical references and physicians frequently list one or several of the symptoms of PCOS as the cause. They may list insulin resistance as the cause of PCOS, but it is only a secondary factor. The high-carbohydrate diet is the cause. Insulin resistance results when a female eats a high-carbohydrate diet as recommended by the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. There are no good carbohydrates. Don't believe the "good-carbs, bad-carbs" myth. Complex carbohydrates become 100% glucose sugar during digestion. The glucose crosses the gut-blood barrier in the small intestines to become blood glucose that must be cleared from the blood by the action of insulin. Nibbling on complex carbohydrates is no better than nibbling on simple carbohydrates like pure sugar. All carbohydrates are bad. There are no good carbohydrates.
Absolute Scientific Proof Carbohydrates Are Pathogenic.
Carbohydrate Death Curve
The long and short-term effects of eating carbohydrates are shown on the graph curve below. Degenerative diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, inflammatory bowel diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, osteoporosis, and many other diseases increase as the percentage of carbohydrates in the diet increases. The long term-effect occurs on the left side of the curve where lower amounts of carbohydrates are eaten. Carbohydrates are not a dietary requirement in the human diet. This scientific physiological truth applies to all humans equally. The detrimental effects of high levels of carbohydrates accumulate over the years, thereby creating the degenerative effect that appears to be age related. Age is only a secondary factor. This is why some older people do not have these diseases. The short-term climax occurs at the far right end of the curve where a diet consisting of 100% carbohydrates will result in a quick and certain death within weeks.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is Not Inherited or Genetic
The claim is often made that PCOS is genetic or inherited because mothers with PCOS will often have daughters who develop PCOS as well. This simplistic assumption is not valid and lacks hard scientific proof. The reason mothers with PCOS have daughters who develop PCOS starts in the womb. A woman with PCOS has insulin resistance. She has a high blood level of insulin when she eats high-carbohydrate foods. A fetus in the womb during the first few months of pregnancy does not have any insulin resistance. Therefore, the high level of glucose and the high level of insulin function like a massive supercharger of energy into the fetus. The cells of the fetus are literally stuffed with glucose. The temperature of the fetus rises in a desperate attempt to discharge the energy. The fetus quickly becomes insulin resistant from the onslaught of glucose and insulin, not from any genetic factor. The result can also be a brain damaged baby, Downs syndrome or a child who develops autism is the result of damage to the brain of the fetus in the womb. These birth defects are claimed to be genetic, but they are not. These brain damaged children became an epidemic as the "low-fat, low-cholesterol diet" became popular.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome can be Prevented and Treated
The proper treatment for PCOS is a drastic change in the diet by slashing carbohydrates to an absolute minimum. Carbohydrates are scientifically not needed in the diet. The minimum daily requirement is zero, none. The liver naturally maintains a perfect level of blood glucose from dietary fats and protein. A diet with little or no carbohydrates results in a minimum level of insulin, thereby preventing insulin resistance and PCOS. Women who already have PCOS will have a sudden reversal of all of the PCOS related diseases listed above when they switch to an ultra low-carbohydrate diet. Hormone levels will return to normal. Menstrual periods will return to normal. They most likely will become fertile within a few months. Pregnancy miscarriages will cease and pregnancies will be carried full term without hormone therapy. Weight loss will begin immediately. Insulin resistance will begin to fade; however, the damage has been done and cannot be entirely reversed. They can never return to their previous high-carbohydrate diet without severe repercussions and a full resumption of all of their ailments.
Female babies of women who have PCOS will not be born with insulin resistance if the mother eats a low-carbohydrate diet throughout her pregnancy. The dreadful fear of having a child with autism can be dismissed summarily. Digestive problems associated with having PCOS will also diminish.

Warning! |
This diet reverses the symptoms of PCOS and promotes natural fertility. Artificial hormones used to increase fertility should be discontinued. It is suggested that a women seeking to become pregnant actually use a non-hormonal method of birth control for several months in order to prevent another premature miscarriage or the conception of a baby with birth defects. The mother's body must be given a chance to heal. All of her hormones (insulin, adrenal hormones and all of the sex hormones) must be given time to adjust to normal. Her body must heal in order for a healthy conception that will produce a 10-point baby. This diet is the same as recommended for diabetics because all PCOS women are also diabetic. Diet Benefits:
Amino acids in the form of extra L-glutamine and whey protein powder are awesome immune system and body building essential nutrients. All immune system cells are made from amino acids. All ligaments, tendons, muscles, etc. are made from amino acids. The digestive tract requires a constant supply of amino acids to prevent leaky gut syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases and autoimmune diseases.
Carlson's lemon flavored cod liver oil supplies an abundant amount of essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA, plus vitamin A and vitamin D. This is an awesome cancer prevention combination. Take one to two tablespoons per day. Don't believe the vitamin overdose myths. A person would have to take 30 tablespoons per day for 6 months in order to approach any toxicity level.
Saturated fat is wonderfully healthy. Heart disease is caused by carbohydrates which promote insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.
Cholesterol and saturated fats in the diet allow the body to make strong sex and adrenal hormones.
Cholesterol, saturated fats, essential fatty acids and amino acids from meat are needed to grow a healthy fetus and smart healthy baby.
Vitamins, Minerals and Supplements:
Supplementing the diet with additional vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and essential amino acids is an absolute requirement in order to overwhelm the body with optimal nutrition. The following web page will give a full list including links to Internet sources, but buying supplements locally is perfectly acceptable.
My personal vitamin, mineral and supplement program by Kent R. Rieske.
This list is extensive and could be too expensive for those women on a restricted budget. Therefore, the supplements are listed in order of importance with the most important listed at the top. The supplements should include the following and more if possible.
Multivitamin and Multimineral tablet. Compare to Twinlabs Women's Ultra Daily One Caps
Carlson's Lemon Flavored Cod Liver Oil with EPA and DHA Fatty Acids, Vitamins A and D - Refrigerate. It has a mild taste because of freshness and purity.
Multidophilus - Lactic Flora by Solaray - Link for info only. Buy locally & Refrigerate.
KAL Magnesium Glycinate 400 - See Note 1 on the vitamin page.
Vitamin E, Mixed Tocopherols, Natural Vitamin E - Refrigerate.
Protein and L-Glutamine Drink. Prepare a drink made with whey amino acid protein powder which is enriched with extra glutamine amino acid. The protein powder consists of a full compliment of amino acid isolates that heal the body and require no digestion. Prepare the drink by blending 8 to 16 oz of reverse osmosis with UV lamp water or unsweetened, low-sodium tomato juice with 1 heaping teaspoon (12 gm) of whey protein powder plus 1 rounded teaspoon (8 gm) of glutamine amino acid powder. Stirring vigorously with the teaspoon is sufficient. The whey protein must be specified on the carton as isolates from cross flow microfiltration and ion-exchange, ultrafiltered concentrate, low molecular weight and partially hydrolyzed whey protein peptides rich in branched chain amino acids and glutamine peptides. The low-carbohydrate type at one gm per scoop or less is best, but it should not be more than four to five gm of carbohydrates per scoop. Do not substitute protein from soy, egg, casein or any other source. Sugar or any other sweetener is unacceptable. Use the "natural flavor" without additives. This amino acid drink can be enjoyed anytime, with or without a meal. Amino acids are food that build and maintain the body. Refrigerate whey protein powder, and discard if it is old. Whey protein powder can cause some gas and can cause an unusual "full" feeling. Discontinue the whey protein powder the if the reactions are unpleasant. Continue to take the glutamine powder.
L-Glutamine Amino Acid.
Ultimate Lo Carb Whey Powder - Natural Flavor by Biochem.
Amino Acids - The Building Blocks of Life and Healing. These combinations of amino acids have been shown to provide the following healing properties:
Amino acids are good chelators of positively charged minerals, especially calcium that hardens the arteries.
Provides pain killing effects by healing the nervous system.
Absorption of body building amino acids without requiring digestion.
Stimulates insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) which functions similar to insulin and enhances protein synthesis and healing.
Fights infections by stimulating the immune system. All immune cells are made from poly-peptides of amino acids.
Provides bone growth of protein collagen and strengthens bones. Poor digestion has been shown to cause osteoporosis and degenerative bone disease.
Provides all of the amino acids required to heal and grow ligaments, tendons, joints, muscles, intestinal tract, heart muscle and all other organs of the body.
Prevents hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) symptoms in people with hypoglycemia or diabetes.
The three most nutritionally important omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic fatty acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic fatty acid (DHA). Alpha-linolenic fatty acid is one of two fatty acids traditionally classified as "essential." The other fatty acid traditionally viewed as essential is an omega-6 fat called linoleic acid. These fatty acids have traditionally been classified as “essential” because the body is unable to manufacture them on its own and because they play a fundamental role in several physiological functions. As a result, we must be sure our diet contains sufficient amounts of both alpha-linolenic acid and linoleic acid.

Dietary Cholesterol Produces Healthy Adrenal Hormones
Cholesterol is the precursor to the adrenal hormones cortisol, corticosterone, aldosterone, and androstenedione. A low-cholesterol diet disrupts the production of these essential hormones. The result is often called "adrenal burnout" with symptoms of constant fatigue that is unrelieved by rest or sleep. Other common symptoms may include a craving for sweets, low blood pressure and low blood sugar. Mental symptoms may include depression, irritability, negativity and an attitude of hopelessness. Adrenal burnout is also called adrenal hypo function, exhaustion or insufficiency. The energy system of the body is seriously disrupted. People with a low level of adrenal hormones may suffer from impaired digestion and may be prone to infections. Adrenal burnout is seen more often in women than men because women tend to conform more closely to the low-cholesterol diet, low-fat diet guidelines.
Surprisingly, diet is seldom targeted as the cause for low adrenal hormone production even though it is common among people eating a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet. It is especially prominent among vegetarians because their diet is typically ultra low-cholesterol, low-saturated fat but high in omega-6 vegetable fatty acids. These groups try to stimulate the adrenal gland with herbal products and Chinese medicine without success. The topics in vegetarian and Chinese medicine books show the extent of their unsuccessful struggle with adrenal burnout on the low-cholesterol, low-fat and low-calorie diet.
The high-cholesterol, high-fat diet supported here produces awesome adrenal hormone production. The positive effects of optimism, energy and enthusiasm for life are achieved in a very short time. The symptoms of adrenal burnout are reversed within a few months. This achievement is obtained simply by eating the correct foods, mainly animal products.
Adrenal burnout, insufficiency or adrenal fatigue is often misdiagnosed as a "low metabolism." We see low-cholesterol, low-fat dieters consistently misdiagnosing their low- level of adrenal hormones by thinking they have developed a "low-metabolism" problem. In actuality, their extremely high-carbohydrate diet is already pumping an outrageous amount of blood glucose and insulin into the body. This high-glucose and insulin diet should drive their metabolism through the roof, but the adrenal hormone deficiency makes it feel like they are starving to death, with no energy, depression and a strong craving for more glucose in the form of sweets.
The adrenal gland and all cells of the body also require a broad list of vitamins, mineral and essential fatty acids. Therefore, the diet must include supplementation of these dietary essentials in order to optimize health. The vegetarian diet is deficient in many vitamins, minerals, protein, cholesterol and essential fatty acids. This combined causes adrenal burnout.
My personal vitamin, mineral and supplement program by Kent R. Rieske.

Satan Attacks the Family Through the Woman
In the Bible Book of Genesis, Chapter 3 we read that Satan first temped the woman, Eve, to eat forbidden food from the tree in the middle of the Garden. She ate from the forbidden tree and lulled her husband, Adam, into believing Satan, disbelieving God and dragging all humanity into sin. Adam and Eve were both punished for their gullibility and disobedience. They were thrown out of the Garden of Eden. God posted a guard at the entrance to prevent their return. They were separated spiritually from God. Adam was forced to strive for a living by the sweat of his brow. Eve could not be trusted as a leader because she was easily deceived. Therefore, the man was placed as head over the woman. She was cursed with pain during childbirth.
Satan is still working through the woman to destroy the family. Satan is still deceiving women about food and diet just as he did with Eve in the Garden of Eden. The wife has a lead role in the preparation of the meals for the family and in making major decisions about diet. Satan continues to lie to the woman with false information about food, diet and health.

Hormone balance clue to bulimia - BBC News - January 8, 2007.
"The binge-eating disorder bulimia may, in some cases, be linked to a sex hormone imbalance, research suggests."
In this report the doctor incorrectly suggests that the bulimia binge-eating disorder is cause by a hormone imbalance. This mistake was made because most doctors do not understand the close connection between diet and the balance of the sex hormones. The female subjects had a higher than normal level of testosterone that revealed itself in blood tests and male-like symptoms of facial hair growth. The true cause of bulimia is a high-carbohydrate, low-cholesterol, low-fat diet that causes hyper insulin resistance and a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). The women have an imbalance of sex hormones because of the low-cholesterol diet. They are bulimic because it is an easy way for them to keep from gaining weight on the high-carbohydrate diet. The purging makes the hormone imbalance worse because cholesterol is purged along with the food that was eaten. Giving the women hormone therapy will not correct any of the problems. The cure is only possible by eating the diet presented here.
Pill that tricks you into losing weight - December 26, 2006.
"An obesity pill which can help women drop two dress sizes in a year has been hailed by scientists after stunning test results."
"A course of one a day could have a dramatic effect on quality of life and cut the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Many slimmers find that, after weeks of successfully losing weight, their metabolism slows down and they hit a plateau. With the pounds slower to come off, many lose their resolve and end up piling weight back on.""Excalia gets round this by tricking the hypothalamus - the brain's weight and appetite thermostat - into keeping the metabolism running fast."
Don't expect this new drug to perform as claimed in the news report. Oh, yes, the patient may indeed lose weight as claimed, but increasing the metabolism will increase blood glucose and blood insulin levels. These changes promote heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The news reporters make the mistake of assuming a reduction in weight equates to a reduction in the risks for heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The drug will most likely cause an increase in insulin resistance that is a dangerous signal of impending incidences of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. A high metabolism is unhealthy. A low metabolism and ideal weight lead to the most healthy state, and that can only be achieved on a low-carbohydrate diet.

Low-Fat Diet Does Not Cut Health Risks, Study Finds. February 9, 2006.
This big study costing millions of dollars was a slam against the low-fat diet, but read the above report with caution. Some of the statements made about Dr. Robert C. Atkins are blatant lies. The article states, "Robert Atkins, keeled over weighing 258 lbs." These statements are lies. Dr. Robert C. Atkins was still caring for patients in his medical practice when he suffered a fatal head injury in an accidental fall on an icy sidewalk as he walked to work at age 72. He was healthy and trim at about 195 lbs. at the time of the accident. He never regained consciousness and suffered kidney failure before his death resulting in an excessive accumulation of body fluids. These lies are typical of those propagated by supporters of the low-fat diet dogma.
