Myths About Nutrition and Diet in the Bible

Click here to read the "Medical Disclaimer."

The Bible has much discussion about food and most people search the Scripture looking at all of the passages trying to determine the "proper diet" that they should follow to be in accordance with their religion. This approach on one major error. It misses one of the most important doctrines in the Bible. We live in the Dispensation of Grace. We are not under any of the command of the Old Testament and most certainly not under any of the examples, customs, habits, rituals, or ordinances. The Apostle Paul warned the believers in the Dispensation of Grace that following such commandments, rituals, or ordinances places their salvation in severe jeopardy. It is a very serious because such actions is a rejection of the work of Jesus Christ. That said, I will continue in the discussion for those who interpret the Old Testament incorrectly.

Many people insist that the Bible contains dietary and nutritional guidelines and restrictions that we should follow today for good health and wellness. Many of these claims are backwards from the actual teaching in the Bible, and the others are wrong for the most part. Some of the incorrect diet books and diet programs are:

The central theme of the Bible from beginning to end is the eating of animals for food and shedding of blood for the forgiveness of sin. God says animals are the preferred food and grains are less desirable. It all started with Cain and Abel in the book of Genesis.

Genesis 4:1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, "I have acquired a man from the Lord." 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the Lord. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

Messianic Jews worship the Torah (first five books of the Old Testament), and they worship a false messiah they call Yeshua. Messianic Jews do not believe Jesus took upon Himself the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:2). They do not believe Jesus nailed the Torah Law to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14, 16 and 20:22). In this Dispensation of Grace, Christians are not under the Law. The Apostle Paul said we are not under Law but under Grace. Paul also said we are not under dietary laws of food or drink, holy days, astronomical events, or the Sabbath. Messianic Jews worship all of these activities. Moreover, the Bible New Testament clearly shows that abstaining from certain foods like pork and shellfish in this Dispensation of Grace is the doctrine of demons. The Torah Law was a shadow of things to come -- Jesus Christ who fulfilled the Torah Law for us and nailed it to the cross.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, [and] [commanding] to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

Colossians 2:16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [ days ]: {in meat...: or, for eating and drinking} {respect: or, part}  17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ. (KJV)

Myth No. 1 - The Bible says we should not eat animal fat.

Many people read Leviticus 7:23 and 24 out of context and claim that the Bible says we are not to eat animal fat. Vegetarians, who worship animals and not God, use these verses in hopes of duping the uninformed into refraining from eating animal products. They will simply try anything to discourage others from eating animals because they fear their reincarnated grandmother could be their dinner.

Leviticus 7:23 "Speak to the children of Israel, saying: `You shall not eat any fat, of ox or sheep or goat. 24 `And the fat of an animal that dies [naturally], and the fat of what is torn by wild beasts, may be used in any other way; but you shall by no means eat it.

The books and websites that use these verses to discourage others from eating animal fats never list verse 25 or other verses that help to give the true Biblical meaning. Instead, they deliberately distort the verses to fit their agenda.

Leviticus 7:25 `For whoever eats the fat of the animal of which men offer an offering made by fire to the Lord, the person who eats [it] shall be cut off from his people.

God favors animal fat as the best of foods. Animal sacrifices made to God in the Old Testament must be those animals that are healthy and fat. God does not want lean or skinny animals for the offering. God wants the fat because He considers the fat to be the best part of the animal. The fat must be included in the offering. Leviticus 7:23-24 is warning the people not to strip away the fat from the animal sacrifice. The people were stripping away the fat from the sacrifice to eat it themselves. They were stealing the best part from God.

The father of the prodigal son in the Bible wanted to serve the best meal to his wayward son who was returning home, so he served a fatted calf. The theory that a low-fat diet is more healthy is not in the Bible. The Bible promotes a high-fat meat diet as being the best.

Luke 15:22 "But the father said to his servants, `Bring out the best robe and put [it] on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on [his] feet. 23 `And bring the fatted calf here and kill [it], and let us eat and be merry; 24 `for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.

Myth No. 2 - Grains are great because Jesus fed the people loaves of bread.

Jesus performed a miracle with some fish and loaves of bread by increasing the amount to feed the crowd of 5,000 followers. People today use this story to claim that grains are highly recommended foods, since Jesus used grain to feed the people. On the surface this sounds perfectly logical. The problem occurs because we are not those people, and our bread is not the bread Jesus used.

The people who were following Jesus were obviously those who could walk long distances. Fat or obese people would not have been in the crowd. The people were also very hungry, for they were missing meals in their desire to see and hear Him.

People today are raised from childhood on a diet of high-carbohydrate foods made from grains. The abundance of grain today causes a condition called Syndrome X, in which the body becomes resistant to the onslaught of insulin from the carbohydrate overload.

Syndrome X.

The bread manufactured today bears no resemblance to the loaves of bread created by Jesus. The grains used today are hybrid varieties. The grains in Jesus' day were not. Flour made today is ground into a fine powder. The flour in Jesus' day was ground between two rocks and was very coarse. Whole grain bread made today is metabolized into blood glucose as fast as sugar, contrary to the common claim. The coarse nature of the flour used in bread in Jesus' day would reduce the insulin surge common today.

In summary, some bread would be OK to eat today given the follow requirements.

Cain's grain offering was unacceptable to God, but Abel's offering of a fat lamb was acceptable.

Genesis 4:4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the Lord respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering.

A study of ancient societies who lived on a high-fiber, high-carbohydrate diet easily proves the unhealthy effects. Ancient Egyptians are a perfect example. Their diet was based on a high percentage of whole grains, fruit, and vegetables. The fiber content was very high. The diet was low-fat. They did not eat refined sugars. These Egyptians in the times of the Pharaohs ate a highly vegetarian diet. The results were disastrous. Their writings and the study of mummies show they had a high incidence of diabetes, heart disease, intestinal diseases, arthritis, osteoporosis, and poor dental health. Their high-fiber diet contained no refined carbohydrates but did not produce the good health as promised by our modern dietary references and professional medical and nutritional associations. The tens of thousands of well-preserved Egyptian mummies give us the absolutely solid scientific proof the high-fiber, high-carbohydrate diet is very unhealthy.

Myth No. 3 - Ezekiel bread is the healthy bread of the Bible.

The recipe for Ezekiel bread is indeed in the Bible.

Ezekiel 4:9 " Also take for yourself wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt; put them into one vessel, and make bread of them for yourself. [During] the number of days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days, you shall eat it.

People recommending the Ezekiel bread recipe fail to tell how it should be baked. God instructed Ezekiel to bake the bread over a fire of human dung. Ezekiel was reluctant and protested. God relaxed His requirement and allowed Ezekiel to bake the bread over a fire of cows' dung.

Ezekiel 4:12 "And you shall eat it [as] barley cakes; and bake it using fuel of human waste in their sight." 13 Then the Lord said, "So shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them." 14 So I said, "Ah, Lord God! Indeed I have never defiled myself from my youth till now; I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has abominable flesh ever come into my mouth." 15 Then He said to me, "See, I am giving you cow dung instead of human waste, and you shall prepare your bread over it."

The bread recipe God gave to Ezekiel was part of a special ritual given to Ezekiel alone. The defiled bread was symbolic of the coming defilement of the children of Israel in the land of the Gentiles. The children of Israel had been worshipping idols and building altars to them. God was giving Ezekiel the prophecy that He was going to drive the children of Israel from their land into the land of the Gentiles because of the disobedience of the children of Israel. And so He did. The people were later slaughtered and many taken into captivity in Babylon by the Gentiles.

The bread was never intended to become the standard bread recipe for the people, nor was it ever mentioned in the Bible again. There is no indication in the Bible that the recipe was especially healthy from a dietary point of view. God never instructed Ezekiel to give the recipe to the people. The mixing of the children of Israel with the Gentiles in captivity was considered by God to be a defilement. The bread was defiled by baking it over a fire of cows' dung. A better assumption is that the Scripture is giving a bread recipe with a mixture of ingredients that is an unhealthy concoction.

The Bible also says that man shall not live by bread alone. This statement supports the scientific fact that bread is not a complete nourishment for humans. A diet of bread alone will lead to nutritional deficiencies, disease, and death.

Deuteronomy 8:3 "So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every [word] that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Meat is a complete food for humans. Many different primitive societies have lived entirely on an all-meat diet with excellent health. In fact, the all meat diet has been proven to be superior to a "balanced diet." The Bible uses the word meat to describe the best. The Bible confirms that meat in any amount is very healthy.

Deuteronomy 12:20 "When the Lord your God enlarges your border as He has promised you, and you say, `Let me eat meat,' because you long to eat meat, you may eat as much meat as your heart desires. 21 "If the place where the Lord your God chooses to put His name is too far from you, then you may slaughter from your herd and from your flock which the Lord has given you, just as I have commanded you, and you may eat within your gates as much as your heart desires."

Myth No. 4 - The Bible says not to eat pork or shellfish.

The Old Testament certainly does say the children of Israel should not eat many different forms of animal life, including swine and shellfish. It also lists guidelines for the acceptable animals.

Leviticus 11:2 "Speak to the children of Israel, saying, `These [are] the animals which you may eat among all the animals that [are] on the earth: 3 `Among the animals, whatever divides the hoof, having cloven hooves [and] chewing the cud--that you may eat. 4 `Nevertheless these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have cloven hooves: the camel, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, is unclean to you; 5 `the rock hyrax, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, [is] unclean to you; 6 `the hare, because it chews the cud but does not have cloven hooves, [is] unclean to you; 7 `and the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, [is] unclean to you. 8 `Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They [are] unclean to you. 9 `These you may eat of all that [are] in the water: whatever in the water has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the rivers--that you may eat. 10 `But all in the seas or in the rivers that do not have fins and scales, all that move in the water or any living thing which [is] in the water, they [are] an abomination to you. 11 `They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. 12 `Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales--that [shall] [be] an abomination to you. 13 `And these you shall regard as an abomination among the birds; they shall not be eaten, they [are] an abomination: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard, 14 `the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 `every raven after its kind, 16 `the ostrich, the short-eared owl, the sea gull, and the hawk after its kind; 17 `the little owl, the fisher owl, and the screech owl; 18 `the white owl, the jackdaw, and the carrion vulture; 19 `the stork, the heron after its kind, the hoopoe, and the bat. 20 `All flying insects that creep on [all] fours [shall] [be] an abomination to you. 21 `Yet these you may eat of every flying insect that creeps on [all] fours: those which have jointed legs above their feet with which to leap on the earth. 22 `These you may eat: the locust after its kind, the destroying locust after its kind, the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind. 23 `But all [other] flying insects which have four feet [shall] [be] an abomination to you.

The claim is often made that some animals are forbidden food because they are scavengers. This logic appeals to us, but it is not confirmed by Scripture, nor can it be applied universally. Chickens will scratch around in excrement and eat from it, and goats eat paper, but they are not forbidden food. Horses are not scavengers but are excluded because they don't chew a cud and do not have a cloven hoof. We have no scientific evidence that eating animals should be condemned on the basis of chewing a cud or having a cloven hoof. Bugs like locusts, crickets, and grasshoppers surely don't appeal to most people as clean and tasty food, especially considering they were eaten whole with the guts intact. The dietary reasons for the inclusions and exclusions simply are not given in the Bible other than to say some animals were considered clean and others unclean.

The dietary laws listed in the Bible are specifically directed to the "children of Israel." Jewish people can follow the dietary programs contained on this website with these added restrictions. Christians are not under these dietary laws in this Dispensation of Grace. The only possible reference was made by the Apostle Paul instructing the Gentile to keep from blood and things strangled.

Acts 21:25 "But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written [and] decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from [things] offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality."

Mark 7:17 17 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 So He said to them, "Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19 "because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, [thus] purifying all foods?" 20 And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 "thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 "All these evil things come from within and defile a man."

Acts 10:9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. 10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. 12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. 13 And a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat." 14 But Peter said, "Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean." 15 And a voice [spoke] to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must not call common." 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

The common mistake in Bible interpretation is to apply the requirements in previous dispensations to us in this Dispensation of Grace. People commonly apply those things which support their agenda and reject other things they simply do not like. Another common mistake is to believe that the dietary restrictions found in Leviticus are there for health reasons. This is not scientifically true. God could just as easily require that swine (pork) be cooked well as is done by most Christians today to kill the trichinosis parasite (rarely found in pork today). The food restrictions in Leviticus were placed on the children of Israel as a test of their obedience just as was circumcision, not for health reasons.

In Acts 10:9-15 God canceled the dietary restrictions that had  been imposed on the children of Israel in Leviticus 11. All animals, shellfish, and seafood are now clean. This change occurred because Jesus "nailed the Law to the cross." We are no longer under the Law but under grace.

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Myth No. 5 - The Bible supports the vegetarian diet as being healthy.

Many false teachers claim that Adam and Eve were vegetarians in the Garden of Eden.

The Bible does say much about the Garden of Eden, but we should not extrapolate false beliefs that are not in the Bible.

Many people claiming to be Christians say the Bible supports the vegetarian diet as being more healthy. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The following is a typical claim by vegetarians.

"The Bible depicts vegetarianism as God's ideal, and the diet conforms to the central biblical principle of stewardship. In Eden, all creatures lived peacefully, and God told both humans and animals to consume only plant foods (Genesis 1:29-31). Several prophecies, such as Isaiah 11:6-9, foresee a return to this vegetarian world, where the wolf, lamb, lion, cow, bear, snake, and little child all coexist peacefully."

After the Garden of Eden the people were raising sheep for food and certainly ate other animals as well. This is well documented in the story about Abel and Cain. God considered Abel's sheep to be a better offering than Cain's grain. Vegetarians and other false teachers deceive many by not telling them that after the great flood God commanded Noah and his family to eat animals, birds, fish, and "every moving thing that lives shall be food for you." God has not rescinded His command in Genesis 9:2 that mankind should eat animals, birds, and fish.

Genesis 9:2 "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move [on] the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. 3 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs." (NKJV)

Christianity and vegetarianism are mutually exclusive religions. Christians worship the triune Creator God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Vegetarians worship animals. Vegetarians do not possess the indwelling Holy Spirit through regeneration (being "born again" of the Spirit of God). This is intuitively obvious by their twisting of the Holy Scripture, ignoring clear Biblical teaching and failure to discern truth from error. Vegetarians are an enemies of the true God who created animals for man's food. The Bible clearly describes the conflict between God and vegetarians. God hates vegetarians.

Romans 1:22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man--and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. 24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.

Animal-Rights Terrorists Strike Again?

The Bible describes those who recommend abstaining from eating meats as extremely evil. They are teaching doctrines of devils with lies and hypocrisy. The same is said about those who are against marriage.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. (KJV)

We can see above that people who abstain from eating meat are described in the Bible as evil. God has ordered evil people such as vegetarians to consume the flesh of humans, themselves and drink their own blood.

Isaiah 9:19 Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts The land is burned up, And the people shall be as fuel for the fire; No man shall spare his brother. 20 And he shall snatch on the right hand And be hungry; He shall devour on the left hand And not be satisfied; Every man shall eat the flesh of his own arm.

Isaiah 49:26 26 I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh, And they shall be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine.

Zechariah 11:9 Then I said, "I will not feed you. Let what is dying die, and what is perishing perish. Let those that are left eat each other's flesh."

Rev. George H. Malkmus and his wife Rhonda are good examples of vegetarians claiming to be Christians. They founded Hallelujah Acres in 1992 and market some strange concoctions such as barley green juice, coal tar soap shampoo, and potassium sulfate deodorant. He claims to be a Christian but teaches the false doctrine that mankind should be vegetarians as were Adam and Eve before the "fall." A few of his outrageously false nutritional statements are:

"The facts are that meat, dairy, and eggs can be linked directly or indirectly to about 90 percent of all physical problems and deaths in America today!!!"

"Colon cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer are the fastest growing cancers in America today and the primary cause of these cancers is the consumption of animal products!"

"Sadly, the high animal protein diet most doctors prescribe for their diabetic patients, is the very thing that causes diabetes."

In July, 2001, at the age of 68, Rev. George H. Malkmus suffered what he describes as a hemorrhagic stroke. He should have known that his low-fat, low-cholesterol vegetarian diet commonly results in dangerously low blood cholesterol which makes one prone to hemorrhagic stroke. Quoting Voyajer on the LowCarber.org message board:

"This type of stroke is very rare. It is called intraparenchymal hemorrhage where the brain starts bleeding internally. It is only found in Asian countries where they don't eat enough meat and animal products and especially where they don't eat saturated fat which is the only thing that protects against it."

Asian type diets increased risk of intraparenchymal hemorrhage.

He tried to take some herbs for a while to bring down the high blood pressure which followed his stroke, but none of them had any effect. Thus he had to resort to using prescription blood pressure medication. He has discontinued giving seminars on his barley green vegetarian diet. Stroke and high blood pressure - YIKES.

The Rev. George H. Malkmus is a false teacher of the Bible. The Bible clearly teaches that mankind should eat meat. God also placed the fear of man in the animals because they were now to be man's food.

God also promised meat to His people:

Isaiah 25:6 On this mountain the LORD Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine -- the best of meats and the finest of wines. (NIV)

The Bible describes those who recommend abstaining from eating meats as extremely evil. They are teaching doctrines of devils with lies and hypocrisy. The same is said about those who are against marriage.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. (KJV)

Christians are admonished to eat meat:

1 Corinthians 10: 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market, asking no questions for conscience' sake; 26 for "the earth [is] the Lord's, and all its fullness." (NKJV)

Jesus fed fish to 5,000 people as one of His many miracles:

Mark 6:39 Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave [them] to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among [them] all. 42 So they all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men. (NKJV)

Was Jesus trying to give 5,000 people cancer by feeding them meat instead of vegetables? Certainly not. Did He not have the power to feed them fruits and vegetables instead of fish? Yes, but He did not. Jesus fed the people with fish, proving He was not a vegetarian.

Rev. George H. Malkmus is a hard-core vegetarian who seduces nutritionally naive persons by using false interruption of the Holy Scriptures. His nutritional and religious advice should be strictly avoided.

Quackwatch.com reviews Rev. George H. Malkmus by Stephen Barrett, M.D.

The mental paranoia and brainwashing in the vegetarian community are astonishing. Vegetarianism should be classified as a mental disease and an eating disorder.

The vegetarian community has propagated so many lies against eating meat that believing this nonsense can be clearly classified as brainwashing. They meet all of the criteria. One typical lie is that meat putrefies in the intestines. This is scientifically false. The body produces stomach acid for the sole purpose of digesting meat. The human anatomy proves we are highly carnivorous. Carbohydrates from fruit and grain produce many diseases in humans. Meat heals the body.

The extent of the brainwashing can be seen in a comment by an ex-vegetarian after she began eating meat again to heal her inflammatory bowel disease that was caused by her vegetarian diet. She wrote, "I just started eating meat again, and I found the taste strange. I am still unnerved by the thought of eating dead animals."

Vegetarians don't see their own brainwashing. They simply think their understanding is superior to that of other people. This attitude is typical of those who have become brainwashed. These individuals rarely resolve their mental illness themselves. They need professional help just as other people do who have eating disorders such as bulimia (binge eating followed by forced purging by means of self-induced vomiting or use of laxatives) and anorexia (self starvation). They must be deprogrammed. Vegetarians usually seek help only after seeing their health decline. They develop diseases as a result of the nutritional deficiencies in their diet. The vegetarian diet is causing an explosion of inflammatory bowel diseases that are expected to get much worse as the growing number of young vegetarians age.

Some people use the story of Daniel to suggest that eating only vegetables is healthy.

Daniel 1:12 "Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 "Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king's delicacies; and as you see fit, [so] deal with your servants." 14 So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. 15 And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king's delicacies.

They are distorting Scripture by suggesting that Daniel proves eating only vegetables is healthy. The people knew that eating vegetables was unhealthy. Daniel was proving that his God would perform a miracle by keeping him healthy even though he ate an unhealthy diet consisting only of vegetables. The Bible is confirming in Daniel's story that the vegetarian diet is unhealthy.

Myth No. 6 - The Bible says milk and honey are preferred foods.

This myth originates from the Bible verse that describes the land of present Israel as a land flowing with milk and honey.

Exodus 13:5 5 "And it shall be, when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

The assumption is that the land was rich and productive, and it probably was. The connection is made that milk and honey are therefore very healthy foods. The connection more likely means that milk and honey will make one fat or obese.

Honey has taken on a following of dieticians and consumers who treat it as a miracle food. At the same time these same people will assault sugar as a dreaded poison. It is true that sugar is very unhealthy, but honey is essentially the same. Honey is simply nature's ready-made candy.

Honey is pure carbohydrate sugar consisting of fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, isomaltose, maltulose, turanose, kojibiose, erlose, theanderose, and panose. It is very confusing why people worship honey. Many people think honey is magically different from refined sugar, but it is not. Refined sugar consists of fructose and glucose molecules that are scientifically identical to fructose and sucrose in honey. Many claim honey is a marvelously healthy food simply because it is mentioned in the Bible and is not forbidden. Others claim it is acceptable because ancient cavemen may have eaten it and somehow became adapted to honey as a healthy food. The logic they use is that the molecules in honey are somehow different from sugar because honey is a natural product made by bees. These are incorrect conclusions. Ancient Paleo men may have eaten it once in a lifetime but probably not. They didn't want to be stung by bees any more than we do, and they didn't have any protective netting. Try smoking the bees out of their hive as shown in the movies and see how much honey you can steal. The claims made about the superiority of honey is make-believe nonsense. The royal jelly will not turn you into a queen either.

The Chemistry of Honey.

Milk is not a perfect food either because it contains lactose, a sugar commonly called milk sugar. More than 90% of the people in some African and Asian countries are lactose intolerant. They are deficient in the lactase enzyme needed to digest lactose. Undigested lactose promotes the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the colon where the bacteria produces noxious chemicals in a fermentation process. God certainly was not suggesting that everyone drink milk when it makes 90% of the people in some countries sick.

Lactose Intolerance.

The Case Against Milk.

Myth No. 7 - Wheat is healthy food because God made it.

Well, God made arsenic, plutonium, and caster beans as well, but they will kill you if eaten. Many people justify eating products made from grain because God created grain, but they fail or obey the commandment concerning the eating of unleavened bread.

Exodus 13:6 "Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day [there] [shall] [be] a feast to the Lord. 7 "Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8 "And you shall tell your son in that day, saying, `[This] [is] [done] because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.'

The true reason people love to eat cereal, bread, and pasta is because these foods produce blood sugar surges. These carbohydrates are highly addictive, so people use the Bible as a crutch to justify their addiction. Grains and fruit are two food groups that are very unhealthy at the levels of consumption we see today. Addiction to high-sugar fruit is a serious problem among adults and children. A study of the shopping carts of adults and the eating habits of children easily proves this unhealthy addiction in all age groups is real.

Absolute Scientific Proof Carbohydrates Are Pathogenic.

Myth No. 8 - Olive oil is healthy because people in the Bible ate it.

This claim is shaky at best. Olive oil was primarily used in lamps for lighting dwellings. Olive oil was used as a base for making fragrances, for ritual anointing, and as a form of money for payment. The amount eaten or used in cooking is highly questionable. Olive oil easily becomes rancid, which makes it unhealthy when eaten. Refined oil olive we see in our supermarkets is most likely more healthy than extra virgin oil olive because the impurities have been removed, contrary to most claims.

Myth No. 9 - Flax seed oil is healthy because people in the Bible ate it.

The Bible does not have any references to flax seed or flax seed oil being consumed as food or used for cooking. There is no reference to the oil being used for any purpose. The flax plant was used to make a fiber for weaving into fabrics. The plant was also used as a thatch to cover the roof.

Flax seeds are of no nutritional value when eaten whole. The shell is very tough, and the unbroken seeds remain intact in the stool. The oil in flax seeds is very difficult to extract, especially using primitive tools known during Bible times. Most likely flax seed oil was unknown to people in the Bible.

Myth No. 10 - Alcoholic drinks are forbidden in the Bible.

Actually alcoholic drinks are not forbidden in the Bible. Being drunk is frowned upon, and consuming an excess of wine is frowned upon. Drinking too much wine was a disqualification for spiritual leaders. The addictive nature of wine was obviously known.

Ephesians 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

1 timothy 3:8 Likewise deacons [must] [be] reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience.

Jesus turned water into the best wine. Jesus served wine at the Last Supper, and the Apostle Paul recommended wine for stomach ailments.

John 2:7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, "Draw [some] out now, and take [it] to the master of the feast." And they took [it]. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the [guests] have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"

Luke 22:19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke [it], and gave [it] to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 20 Likewise He also [took] the cup after supper, saying, "This cup [is] the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.

God served well-refined wine, meaning the wine had fermented to produce alcohol, to the children of Israel. He also served them fatty meat with the bones full of marrow fat. God did not feed the people a low-fat, high-fiber, low-cholesterol, high-carbohydrate vegetarian meal consisting of whole grain cereal, rice milk, tofu, beans, or fruit. God served the people fine wine and fatty meat.

Isaiah 25:6 And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. (NKJV)

Bonus Myth No. 11 - Vegetarian Diet Gave Daniel Awesome Health.

Many people claim the vegetarian diet is confirmed in the Bible because Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah ate a diet of only vegetables and water. They were later examined by the king and found to be in perfect health, ten times better than all others in the kingdom.

Daniel 1: 11 So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 "Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. 16 Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables. 17 As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 Now at the end of the days, when the king had said that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 Then the king interviewed them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they served before the king. 20 And in all matters of wisdom [and] understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians [and] astrologers who [were] in all his realm.

This story actually proves the vegetarian diet is bad. The men ate the special vegetarian diet to prove God was working miracles in them. The men and the king all knew the vegetarian diet should have made the men sickly. That is the reason the men ate only vegetables and water. They proved God was performing miracles in them by maintaining their health and improving it.

Satan Attacks the Family Through the Woman.

In the Bible Book of Genesis, Chapter 3, we read that Satan first temped the women, Eve, to eat forbidden food from the tree in the middle of the Garden. She ate from the forbidden tree and lulled her husband, Adam, into believing Satan, disbelieving God, and dragging all humanity into sin. Adam and Eve were both punished for their gullibility and disobedience. They were thrown out of the Garden of Eden. God posted a guard at the entrance to prevent their return. They were separated spiritually from God. Adam was forced to strive for a living by the sweat of his brow. Eve could not be trusted as a leader because she was easily deceived. Therefore, the man was placed as head over the woman. She was cursed with pain during childbirth.

Satan is still working through the woman to destroy the family. Satan is still deceiving women about food and diet just as he did with Eve in the Garden of Eden. The wife has a lead role in the preparation of the meals for the family and in making major decisions about diet. Satan continues to lie to the woman with false information about food, diet, and health.

Summary.

The only dietary requirement in the Bible that is applicable to Christians today is that we should eat fatty meat. Those who recommend abstaining from eating meat are labeled in the Bible as having departed from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy, and having their conscience seared with a hot iron. In other words, they are very bad people and none possess saving faith. They are enemies of God.

In this Dispensation of Grace, Christians are not under the Law. The Apostle Paul said we are not under Law but under Grace. Paul also said we are not under dietary laws of food or drink, holy days, astronomical events, or the Sabbath.

(KJV)

The "Christian" who puts himself under Old Testament dietary rules, holy days, astronomical events, or the Sabbath is doomed. Paul said that those under the Law will perish --- he meant they will spend eternity in Hell because they are not truly saved.

Colossians 2:20  Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, {rudiments: or, elements}  21  (Touch not; taste not; handle not;  22  Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? (KJV)

The modern dietary theory of eating a "balanced" diet of certain classes of foods called food groups is completely foreign to the Bible. The theory also lacks a scientific foundation. Eating from these food groups is not a scientific requirement for good health. There are 57 essential elements such as protein, fat, cholesterol, vitamins, minerals, air, water, etc., required to maintain human health. No food group is a requirement. Carbohydrates are not essential in the human diet. Humans actually function better and are more healthy on a diet with the minimum amount of carbohydrates. The health improves dramatically in people who reduce their carbohydrate intake. No health condition, disease, or illness is prevented by eating carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are scientifically pathogenic, disease causing, and should be highly restricted.

Restricting certain foods or food groups from the diet is not discussed in the Bible as pertaining to Christians, except we must not abstain from eating meat. The Christian is wrong to abstain from eating shellfish even though it was forbidden in the Old Testament. Abstaining from certain food groups like grains and fruit is perfectly acceptable according to the Bible and scientific facts.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 3 Forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from meats , which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: 5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

People of the Bible ate very little fruit simply because it was very perishable. They had no way to preserve fruit or the fruit juice. The season for picking ripe fruit was very short, and it quickly spoiled if not immediately eaten. Grape juice naturally turned into wine by fermentation and was considered a highly desirable drink, but durnkenness was strongly condemned. Calories from fruit were a negligible portion of the diet, certainly not consistent with our Food Pyramid Guide.

Orthodox Jews who follow the dietary guidelines set forth in the Pentateuch (first five books of the Bible) have many restrictions in the selection of animals, fowl, insects, and seafood as well as in the method of preparation. Orthodox Jews are commanded to eat meat as well.
